Image of Social Change

When I think of my Social Change topic, “Jewish Lives Matter,” the first thing I think about is the Holocaust. This was the worst time for the Jewish people in our history. Hitler was responsible for the death of about twelve million people, six million of those were Jewish. The image of think of during this time is Auschwitz, which contained over forty concentration camps owned by Germany. The picture contains many people mobbed on top of each other, being told what to do and where to go by the Nazi’s. This image creates instant frustration in my mind every time. I saw it for the first time in middle school when we were learning about this topic. I already knew a great deal about it, but the image has gotten to me every time. It motivates me to act, which is why I chose to do my case study on Jewish Lives Mattering each and every day from now to forever. I want every person to be aware of what happened during the Holocaust. I want every person to know the numbers. I want every person to know every detail and have a good understanding of it to be able to know why I want them to know. The Holocaust was a horrific time in history. The sad part of that people still use Anti-Semitism in our world today. Anti-Semitism, which I will discuss more in my case study, is discrimination against Jewish people. I see many people today who joke around with the topic of Hitler and the Holocaust. It is sick. There are people everyday who are defending a person who was the reason six million Jews were killed, just because they were Jews. Sick, just sick. My number one thing that I want people to know are the facts. If someone is not aware, I will be glad to educate them on what went down and why it was a crucial time in history for Jewish people. My goal is that the people I educate can then tell someone else what they have learned so another person has a better understanding of this history. The more people who know the facts, the more people who will join to spread awareness of why this is so important. Showing some people the image rather than the numerical or general facts may affect them differently. Or maybe it is vice-versa. Whichever way gives one a better understanding of the subject, I will do. I know that there are people out there who don’t care at all. That is fine. But, I do know there are many people out there who do care. And want to help. They will help. Everyone just needs to be taught the facts and more people will know each and every day. This image, like I said, brings frustration to my mind each time I see it. It probably always will, because it was an awful time for Jewish people. But, if more and more people are given new information each day, that is a big step in the right direction.
